Level 1: Weather
Nice weather does put us in a better mood, so let us dive into the weather topic and learn all the weather words whether you need them or not (spoiler: you do).


- the condition of the atmosphere at a certain location and time, regarding heat, humidity, sunshine, cloudiness, wind, pressure, snow, rain, etc.
Example:
The weather is great today. It’s 80°F and sunny.

- extremely hot weather.
Example:
Due to climate change, heat waves in Northern Europe are becoming more and more common.

- the expected weather.
Example:
According to the forecast, it was supposed to be sunny, but it’s pouring rain all day.

- a star around which the Earth orbits that provides the light and heat for the Earth/ The warmth and light from the sun/ Cloudless weather.
Example:
Usually, we have more sunny days in summer.
Chilly - cold weather.
Example:
It’s rather chilly outside. Wait a few minutes, I’ll go grab my jacket.
Clear - nice weather with a cloudless sky.
Example:
The night was clear and we saw a lot of stars.
Cloud/cloudy - the water in the sky that makes it look gray, dark blue, or white.
Example:
The sky is so cloudy. It looks like it’s going to rain.
Cool - low temperature in between warm and cold.
Example:
Even though the days are rather hot in summer, in most regions, the nights are still cool.
Flurries - light snow.
Example:
Is it snowing?Not really, but I’ve seen some flurries.
Fog/foggy - thick vapor that worsens visibility.
Example:
Are you going to David today?No, I decided not to drive in such foggy weather.
Forecast - the expected weather.
Example:
According to the forecast, it was supposed to be sunny, but it’s pouring rain all day.
Freezing cold - extremely low temperature.
Example:
It’s freezing cold outside. I’m not going anywhere today.
Frost - extremely low temperature; small ice crystals that form during low temperature.
Example:
I left my flowers on the balcony, but the night frost killed them all.
Frostbite - a skin condition, usually reddish skin, caused by exposure to low temperature.
Example:
I was walking my dog without gloves last winter and got frostbites all over my hands.
Heat stroke - a health condition caused by long exposure to the sun that has such symptoms as high body temperature, nausea, headache, and weakness.
Example:
I feel bad. I think I got a heat stroke because we were playing volleyball all day and I wasn’t wearing a hat.
Heat wave - extremely hot weather.
Example:
Due to climate change, heat waves in Northern Europe are becoming more and more common.
Minus/negative - below zero.
Example:
It’s cold, but it’s definitely not freezing-cold. It’s just minus 2 degrees.
Rain/raining/rainy - the moisture from the atmosphere falling down to earth.
Example:
When it’s raining, I like to stay home and read all day.
Rainbow - the colors visible in the sky, usually red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, caused by the refraction and dispersion of the sun's light by rain.
Example:
Rainbows are considered to be common, but they do not appear after every rainfall.
Season - a period in the year that consists of several months and is characterized by certain weather conditions, for example, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn.
Example:
Spring is the best season to travel since the weather is nice but it’s not too hot.
Snow/snowy/snowing - ice crystals of frozen atmospheric vapor.
Example:
Christmas without snow is kind of depressive.
Sun/sunshine/sunny - a star around which the Earth orbits that provides the light and heat for the Earth/ The warmth and light from the sun/ Cloudless weather.
Example:
Usually, we have more sunny days in summer.
Umbrella - a device that is made to protect one against rain.

Wind/windy - the natural movement of the air/ exposed to or characterized by winds.
Example:
How was your hiking today?It was a rather windy day, so we were really cold.
