  • Land - dry surface of the earth.

  • River - a body of water that flows into the sea.

    Example:

    There are no big rivers in the area, which is why the city has a significant problem with freshwater.

  • Sea - a large waterbody with salt water.

    Example:

    The country has no access to the sea, which creates significant logistic problems.

  • Animal - a living thing that can breathe, move, and react to the outside world, for example, mammals, birds, insects, or reptiles.

    Example:

    There are many dangerous animals in the forest, which is why going there without guidance is not a good idea.

  • Bee - an insect that collects pollen and nectar and produces honey and wax.

    Example:

    The extinction of bees is a huge problem and a serious threat to our environment.

  • Bird - an egg-laying animal with feathers, wings, and beak that is able to fly.

    Example:

    I woke up to the birds singing.

  • Cloud - the water in the sky that makes it look gray, dark blue, or white.

    Example:

    I was lying on the beach observing the clouds passing by.

  • Fish - a cold-blooded animal with fins and gills that lives in water.

    Example:

    On the last fishing trip, Jake caught a huge fish, which surprised everyone.

  • Flower - a seed-bearing part of a plant with colorful petals that usually smells good and attracts bees and other insects.

    Example:

    The meadow was covered with beautiful flowers.

  • Grass - a short plant with narrow and long leaves that grows on the ground or is cultivated on lawns.

    Example:

    The weather in this region is so hot that the grass turns yellow in June.

  • Ice - water in a solid form.

    Example:

    A thin layer of ice was covering the road, which is why driving was rather dangerous.

  • Plant - a living organism such as grass, trees, flowers, etc. that absorbs water and synthesizes nutrients in its leaves by means of photosynthesis.

    Example:

    Everybody knows that plants purify the air and therefore help slow down global warming.

  • Rain - the moisture from the atmosphere falling down to earth.

    Example:

    Heavy rains caused floods in some regions of the mountains.

  • Rock - a solid mineral forming the surface of the earth; can be of various shapes and sizes.

    Example:

    When we broke open the rock we found on the beach, we saw the skeleton of an ancient animal.

  • Sand - a granular substance, usually white or pale yellow, that is typically found on the beach.

    Example:

    Iceland beaches are known for their black volcanic sand.

  • Sky - the atmosphere seen from the earth, typically blue when cloudless.

    Example:

    Look at the sky! There’s a plane!

  • Sun - a star around which the Earth orbits that provides the light and heat for the Earth.

    Example:

    At noon, the sun is at its zenith, which is why it is the hottest time of the day.

  • Tree - a woody plant, usually large, with a stem and brunches, e.g., oak, pine tree, willow, etc.

    Example:

    Planting more trees will help slow down or even stop global warming.

  • Capital - a city that is an administrative center of a country.

    Example:

    Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States.

  • Continent - a large expanse of land on Earth.

    Example:

    There are seven continents on Earth, which are North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica.

  • Country/State - a nation with its own territory and government.

    Example:

    The United States shares the border with only two countries, which are Mexico and Canada.

  • City - a large urban area where many people live.

    Example:

    Los Angeles is one of the biggest cities in the US.

  • Road - a way leading from one place to another, usually paved.

    Example:

    The road was closed due to the road renovation, so we had to take a longer route.

  • Town - an urban area that is smaller than a city but larger than a village.

    Example:

    I live in a small town, and finding a decent job here is extremely difficult.
