For many people, success equals career, and no matter if this is true or not, job and career vocabulary is super important for those who are going to work in an English-speaking country. So let’s learn basic job vocabulary and climb the career ladder together.


- a person who is hired to work for another person or company.
Example:
All Google employees have to sign contracts that prohibit them from sharing any information about the company’s products and services.

- to manage a business or company, usually the one a person owns.
Example:
My brother runs a small coffee shop across the street.

- a form a potential employee fills in while applying for a certain job.
Example:
To apply for a manager position, please fill in this job application.

- to write a letter, email, or fill in a special form to notify a human resources department that you are interested in a particular job opening.
Example:
I applied for a job at Apple, but I’m afraid they won’t even consider me.
Benefit(s) - a profit or advantage provided by an employer.
Example:
Among your work benefits will be medical and dental insurance.
Bonus - extra money given to an employee as a reward for their good job.
Example:
Jacob has received a bonus at work, and he’s going to spend it on a new computer.
Employee - a person who is hired to work for another person or company.
Example:

Job application - a form a potential employee fills in while applying for a certain job.
Example:
To apply for a manager position, please fill in this job application.
Job offer - an invitation to work in a certain position.
Example:
I got my very first job offer today.Really? Congratulations!
Pay rise - an increase in one’s salary.
Example:
I think a decent pay rise is a good reason to stay at this job.
Part-time job - a job that does not require working 40 hours per week; usually, employees work less than 30 hours a week.
Example:
When I was a student, I had a part-time job as a waiter.
Salary - a fixed regular payment for one’s work.
Example:
What is a good salary in your opinion?It depends on every particular country, but speaking about the United States, it should be no less than $100,000 a year.
Skilled worker - a talented worker.
Example:
Bill is a very skilled worker. He managed to fix the engine I spent weeks working on in just two days.

Example:
The unemployment rates in the country are expected to decrease this year.
Worker - a person who works for a company or another person and does a specific type of work.
Example:
All the farm workers have regular medical checkups.
