Level 1: Sport
Many people love sport simply because it makes them healthy and happy. Even simple jogging in the morning every day can make you feel stronger and more energetic. So let’s learn some words about sport.

Example:
Richard is a nice coach. I think that the ‘Lions’ should win the game.

It seems I don’t have any sports skills, except for swimming.
Captain - the leader of a team.
Example:
Dan is the captain of our amateur football team.
Champion - a person who won a competition.
Example:
My sister is an Olympian champion. She does fencing professionally.
Coach - a person who directs or trains a team or an athlete.
Example:
Richard is a nice coach. I think that the ‘Lions’ should win the game.
Cup - a trophy in the shape of a cup and typically made of gold, silver, or copper that athletes or teams get for winning in a competition.
Example:
Our basketball team won the competition and got a golden cup.
Fan - a person who supports a certain sports team or an athlete.
Example:
The Liverpool fans celebrated the team’s victory for the entire night.
Field/ Pitch - an area that is typically covered in grass and has special markup used for playing sports.
Example:
The average size of a football pitch is 105 by 68 meters.
Goal - in a ball game, an instance of scoring a ball in a net, hoop, or goal posts.
Example:
The soccer player scored another goal and the team won.
Gym/ Gymnasium - a place where people can exercise.
Example:
I go to the gym three times a week to stay fit and healthy.
Half-time - a pause in-between the first and second parts of a game or contest.
Example:
It’s only half-time. The team still has some time to score and win.
Judge - a person who evaluates athletes’ performance in order to determine the winner of a contest or championship.
Example:
The judges are ready to announce the winners of the competition.
Leisure - a free time that you use for enjoyment.
Example:
Sam has leisure time this Friday because his office will be closed.
Skill - an obtained ability to do something.
Example:
It seems I don’t have any sports skills, except for swimming.
Stadium - a large closed area with a field and seats for the spectators where games and competitions take place.
Example:
The game will take place at the Central Stadium.
Teammate - a member of the same team.
Example:
The captain encouraged his teammates to work as hard as they could to win.
To compete - to strive to defeat other athletes or a team in order to win the first prize.
Example:
I will compete in a dancing contest next month.
To get in shape - to become fit.
Example:
I really need to get in shape before my wedding.
To warm up - to prepare your body for more challenging exercises.
Example:
Make sure to warm up before your dance class to avoid getting injured.
To work out - to exercise.
Example:

Basketball - a team game with five players in each team in which the scores are gained by tossing the ball through a raised goal.

Golf - an open-air game played on a large field that consists in getting a small ball in a hole using a special club.
Example:
Golf is a sport of millionaires.
Dancing - an activity of rhythmically moving one’s body to music; depending on a style and/or direction, has a set of steps, moves, turns, and other elements.
Example:
Dancing is my biggest passion in life, and becoming a professional dancer is my biggest dream.
Diving - a sport of diving into water from a diving board.
Example:
Please, do not confuse diving with scuba diving. Scuba diving usually takes place in the ocean or sea, while diving is the sport of jumping into the pool from a diving board.
Fitness - a sports activity that aims at keeping a body fit and healthy.
Example:
I’m not into sports, but I love fitness because it helps me stay in shape as well as feel simply wonderful.
Football/ Soccer - a team sport that is played in two teams of eleven players each where each team strives to goal a ball into the opponent’s gate.
Example:
I honestly don’t know why soccer isn’t popular in the United States. Most people there play American football.
Tennis - a sport in which two (sometimes four) players strike a small ball over a net.
Example:
Do you play any sports?Yes, I do like tennis.
Swimming - a sports activity of moving through the water.
Example:
I used to be a professional swimmer, but now swimming is only a leisure activity for me.
